Piano Lessons in Mississauga for Adults and Kids
We enjoy working with aspiring pianists of all ages at Sing Music Studio, and we have programs for young children through adults. Each age group has a specific set of musical needs, and we always keep that in mind when creating a unique lesson plan for you.
Piano Lessons for Adults
Are you an adult who has always wanted to play the piano, or do you bring several years of playing experience with you? Did you take piano lessons as a child, but didn’t have time to keep up over the years? Regardless of your circumstance, we’d be happy to work with you.
We will always take your goals into consideration. Many adults come to us with the ability to play by ear or read lead sheets, but they struggle to sight read or learn classical repertoire quickly – we can focus on that and teach you how to pick up a score and play it. Or maybe you were classically trained, but you can’t play popular genres or confidently play in a band. We can address that as well.
Another common theme with our adult piano students is tension and poor technique. Whether you work on a computer or perform manual labour for a living, you may bring years of tension in your hands, arms, shoulders and back to the piano. We will help you play with fluidity and ease so you don’t develop pain or bad habits.
From young professionals to recently retired individuals, adults love piano lessons in our studio. Please get in touch to learn more.
Piano Lessons for Kids in Mississauga
Has your child demonstrated an interest in music, or do you want to instill a love for the piano at an early age? We make lessons fun, engaging, and fundamentally sound so your child will:
- Actually enjoy lessons and practicing
- Develop a strong understand of the foundational elements of music that they can use for the rest of their lives
- Be able to play music from a score, lead sheet, or by ear
- Demonstrate an understanding of music theory and more
We will teach your child how to read music, identify intervals and major and minor keys, pick out tunes by ear, and play with correct technique. We can also keep them on track for Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams and/or popular music tracks, and whether they choose to pursue music competitively or professionally or not, our goal is for them to enjoy a lifetime of music.
Most importantly, we want your child to become a confident and fulfilled musician. We promote self-expression, so if they want to transpose their pieces into minor keys, write their own songs at the piano, or pursue a favourite genre, we will help them do so.
Our Goals For You At The Piano
Sing Music Studio isn’t a stuffy conservatory trying to create piano-playing robots. We prioritize the enjoyment of music above all else, and to that end, we encourage excellence in our lessons and from our students.
Firstly, we encourage connections among our teachers, students, and peers. You will be able to meet other families enrolled at Sing Music Studio, and relationships with other music-loving families help you improve, find outlets for your new skills, and enjoy music more.
Secondly, we strive for excellence in everything we do. Our lessons are structured and detailed, and we’ll give you specific things to practice each week. We’ll keep tabs on your practice time – there will be a direct correlation between daily practice and improvement at the piano.
Next, we always spark creativity in our piano students. You’ll be able to compose, improvise, and interpret your music in a unique way, and we’ll give you the tools necessary to execute your own ideas at the keyboard.
Lastly, we want to create confident, independent pianists. We will teach you how to practice, and you’ll eventually be able to pick out a piece of music on your own, work through it, and perform it with minimal input from a teacher. We also want you to grow the confidence to be able to perform in a range of musical situations, whether it be as an accompanist, a keyboardist in a band, or something else.
Do You Want To Play The Piano Simply For Fun?
Adults often contact us because they want a fun artistic outlet, they want to understand their favourite music better, or they want to participate in music with friends. Others simply want to unwind with some Chopin at the end of a busy day. If this sounds like you, let us know! We want to tailor your learning experience to your goals, and you don’t need to aspire to the Van Cliburn competition to enroll in lessons.
You may have similar goals for your child, and that’s great too. Not every child should be made to practice for two hours per day, compete in events every month, and feel a tremendous amount of pressure. We will nurture an appreciation of the piano, not enforce a rigid dogma.
Enjoy Our New Rockschool Method
Our students love the available Rockschool method for learning music. You will play rock, pop, and top 40 hits, and whether you aspire to professional songwriting or simply playing with friends, you’ll learn the ins and outs of your favourite songs. Study form, chord progressions, and more, and learn how to play the piano in a fun and creative method.
We also teach our students how to write songs and use their creativity. We won’t simply teach you how to regurgitate the notes on a page, and you will be able to improvise and play off lead sheets after working through our system.
Preparation For RCM Exams
If you do wish to pursue a more structured and rigorous piano education, we can facilitate that as well. We can prepare you for the various RCM exams, work graded literature into your lessons, and get your child ready for high school auditions if need be. This learning track requires a focus on technical exercises and daily practice of course, but if you want to become an excellent pianist, that’s what it takes.
Preparation For University or Conservatory Auditions
If your high schooler is considering advanced music degrees, or if you are an advanced pianist preparing for recitals, we would love to work with you as well. We can help you choose repertoire that will show off your abilities, whether it be Liszt, Rachmaninoff, a Chopin concerto, or Bach preludes and fugues. We’ll analyze your technique to increase speed, improve arm weight and wrist rotation to facilitate a beautiful tone, and help you interpret your music tastefully, among other things.
Opportunities For You To Grow At The Piano
We believe that you will advance at the piano faster if you learn in a collaborative environment. That’s why we offer numerous opportunities for you to play with and for your peers. We currently host two student recitals per year, and you’ll have the opportunity to play your strongest pieces for family, friends, and fellow students. We also find opportunities for you to play in ensembles, and duos, so you can learn how to play in time with others, defer to a partner who has the melody line, and enjoy a fuller musical experience. We also create opportunities for our students to jam, so whether you are learning the blues, rock, or pop, you can collaborate with others.
What Genres Can Your Piano Instructor Teach You?
As mentioned above, you’ll be able to focus on the genre of your choice at Sing Music Studio. We teach the fundamentals (music theory, technique, note reading, composition, improvisation, and more) to every student, and you’ll be able to use those skills to play jazz, show tunes, classical music, and more.
If you aspire to work as a collaborative pianist, we’d be happy to work on Schubert’s lieder, Italian art songs, the Great American Songbook, and more. If you want to play pop tunes, we can fine-tune your ability to play from fake books and lead sheets. And if you want to play classical music at a high level, we’ll carefully select graded literature, from Mozart sonatas to Prokofiev.
How Much Do Our Piano Lessons Cost?

- 60 minutes – $70.00
- 75 minutes – $87.50

Specific Things We Will Cover in Lessons
We want our students to be well-rounded at the keyboard. To that end, we will cover the following, among other items.
Firstly, it’s important that new and experienced pianists alike learn to play with proper technique. We will develop finger dexterity, finger strength, wholesome posture, good pedaling technique, loose position in the shoulder and arms, wrist rotation, and more.
For more experienced pianists, tone comes into play. We will work on using your arm weight to create a rich, beautiful tone at the piano, and we can also practice different fingering techniques that will help you get the most out of the piano.
You will also learn how to read notes and play by ear. Reading music is important for any musician, but many pianists are not able to easily play a tune (let alone accompany themselves) by ear. Music theory will of course come into play – you will learn key signatures, chords, progressions, time signatures, and more.
That said, we will angle your instruction towards your goals. If you want to play off lead sheets, we can “fast-track” the chord learning process so you can play in a band. If you want to be a classical pianist, we will focus on reading, and so forth.
